Our Mission

Urban Leadership Specialists has experience in building trusting relationships with families and community agencies for the partnership and positive interaction and development of youth and young adults. Capacity building, convening of stakeholders, and resource development.

Experience in building and preserving alliances with federal, state, local policymakers, community leaders, schools, churches, businesses, and community residents.

Resourceful, innovative, diligent, non-traditional, and ambitious servant-leader seeking human and social change.

 

We have worked for and with many notable organizations across the country and region such as the MI Department of Education's African American Young Men of Promise and Student Initiatives, Public Policy Associates, Michigan Prisoner Reentry Initiative, United Way for Southeastern Michigan, Michigan Council on Crime and Delinquency, Department of Housing and Urban Development, the National Congress for Community Economic Development, the Community Foundation for Southeastern Michigan and the USDOJ.

 

We use the most current, demographically specific, evidence-based strategies and best practices to develop and coach teachers, parents, and students to help reverse negative school trends (i.e. low student performance, lack of parent involvement, educational achievement gap, etc.) into positive learning cultures.  

 

ULS also has established relationships and experiences working with community-based social service organizations that meet the human service needs of students, parents, and communities. We have succeeded in bringing stakeholders to the table to identify and play an active role in community social change. 

 

The ULS team has a plethora of experience in student program development and implementation experience working with disenfranchised populations. We have designed and implemented various local, state, and federal programs.  ULS staff has established and conducted the aforementioned programming under varying schools, non-profit organizations, and churches throughout the country.

 

Built into the ULS framework is a system of a comprehensive short cycle and summative assessment tools as a part of its evaluation process. These tools provide us the means to measure student performance, retention of information, cognitive and social development, and overall improvement of partners. Additionally, these assessments inform and shape the supports provided to partners.
